Supported Projects

AFILIATYS' political priorities

AFILIATYS' priorities revolve around three main areas:

  • Social, including the fight against poverty and exclusion.

  • Humanitarian.

  • Cultural.

Support in 2023 (Provisional)

Although year 2023 is not yet over, AFILIATYS has already dedicated approximately € 77 750 to its priorities. In addition, €7,750 has been provided in co-funding by GIVE EUR HOPE, the nonprofit organization with which AFILIATYS has partnered to promote solidarity by the staff of the European Institutions, towards people living in poverty and social exclusion.

Medical Sector

As in previous years, AFILIATYS has:

  • Supported two Belgian associations dedicated to cancer research.

  • Supported the Alzheimer's Foundation.

  • Contributed to the organization of the Muco Kikko Cup organized by an association of families affected by cystic fibrosis.

  • Funded the purchase of necessary equipment for the Armenian Medical Association in Belgium to support the operation of a field hospital in Armenia.

Fight Against Poverty and Social Exclusion

Given the significant challenges faced by the Belgian Restos du Cœur in dealing with the surge in meal requests and the risk of having to turn away eligible individuals, AFILIATYS has decided to provide exceptional assistance of €25,000 to them.

To enable approximately 4,000 children to continue attending school during the winter, AFILIATYS has assisted the "12 Hours for Greece" association in providing heating fuel for schools in isolated villages in northern Greece.

AFILIATYS has also co-financed the following with GIVE EUR HOPE:

  • A vehicle to repair agricultural and forestry machinery in isolated villages in the Western Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, for the Bio-B-Eco association in Borino.

  • A transport and removal van to help the Compagnons Dépanneurs continue assisting disadvantaged families in Brabant Wallon.

  • The provision of 500 t-shirts to teams registered with the "Be well" program of DG HR to encourage their participation in the Ekiden relay marathon and contribute to funding poverty alleviation projects in the European Union and sustainable development projects in third countries.

Cultural

AFILIATYS has contributed to the production of a play by the National Theater of Wallonia Brussels, written, directed, and performed by young people with disabilities.

Support in 2022

In 2022, AFILIATYS allocated €68,340 to its stated priorities, along with an additional €13,720 in co-funding from its partner, the nonprofit organization GIVE EUR HOPE, sourced from donations and contributions from colleagues in European institutions.

  • Supported Restos du Cœur in Brussels, Charleroi, and Ostend.

  • Contributed financially to RTBF's Viva for Life campaign, which raises funds for organizations fighting child poverty.

  • Participated in Le Soir newspaper's Christmas Action to provide toys to disadvantaged children in Belgium.

  • Assisted the "12 Hours for Greece" association in providing heating fuel for schools in northern Greece (allowing approximately 4,000 children to attend school).

  • The provision of t-shirts to 720 members of 130 teams registered with the DG HR's Fit@work program to encourage colleagues to participate in the Ekiden relay marathon and contribute to funding poverty alleviation projects in the European Union and sustainable development in third countries.

Actions for Victims of the War in Ukraine

AFILIATYS donated €15,000 to the Urgence Ukraine 12-12 Action and co-financed, alongside GIVE EUR HOPE, the provision of solar lamps and chargers by Electriciens sans Frontières to Ukrainian refugees in cross-border reception camps.

Support in 2021

In 2021, AFILIATYS allocated €60,019 to its priorities, supplemented by a contribution from the DG HR staff's 2020 Christmas Action.

Medical Sector

Traditional support was provided to two Belgian associations dedicated to cancer research and the Action Parkinson Association to furnish their new reception room for individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Humanitarian

Following the catastrophic floods in the summer of 2021, AFILIATYS provided support of €26,000 to the Red Cross branches in Belgium and Germany, and to a group of colleagues from the EU institutions who volunteered to assist flood victims in the Belgian Ardennes.

In addition, after the devastating fires on the island of Euboea in Greece during the same summer, AFILIATYS provided €10,000 in aid to the Rovies Farmers' Cooperative to rebuild the oil press vital for the social and economic well-being of local farmers. Simultaneously, our partner, GIVE EUR HOPE, supported the Argo Solidarity Medical Association for Greece with €3,000 to rebuild the Kalamoudi Health Center.

Fight Against Poverty and Social Exclusion

Support allowed for:

  • Providing toys to disadvantaged children in Belgium through Le Soir's Christmas Action.
